Cocaine may be going through Barbados weekly – police

(Barbados Nation) There is a possibility that cocaine passes through Barbados on a weekly basis, says Royal Barbados Police Force Drug Squad investigator Damien Bennett.

Speaking after a Customs and Excise Department/National Committee for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Dependency workshop yesterday in the Warrens Office Complex, St Michael, Bennett told the DAILY NATION this was based on statistical evidence gathered over the years.

“Practically looking at it, you can believe cocaine passes through Barbados every week via at least one passenger because the avenues for importing drugs into the island are so open at the airport. A person arriving in transit can come through one part of the airport and go through another without actually staying in Barbados.

“Because of our geographical location and the fact we have a major international airport, statistically we act as a transit hub for [illegal drug] source countries,” he said.
