Donnie McClurkin to spread the `good news’ tonight

Guyanese are promised a concert with a difference when American gospel music singer and Pastor Donnie McClurkin takes to the stage at the National Stadium tonight for an evening of prayer, inspiration and great music.

The Grammy Award winner is in Guyana for the first time and yesterday at a press conference said he is here to spread the gospel.

“Don’t get upset over gospel because it simply means good news and anything that is positive, anything that is promoting peace, unity, harmony, family, community, that is all apart of the gospel…that’s the gospel I spread across the world,” he said.

McClurkin shared touching life experiences and explained the role God played in helping him get through some of the worst periods in his life.

“Every road that he has brought me through, it was really miraculous…victim of rape …  alcoholism in the family, drug addiction in the family, drug dealing in the family, violence in the family…all of this is how I grew up and it affected me in many ways. The only thing I did have was Jesus and the consolation that he was on my side,” he shared.

The well-known gospel singer spoke of the comfort a relationship between an individual and God grants them, especially in difficult moments, which he said are experienced by everyone.

“No matter what walk of life you’re from, no matter what culture you’re from, no matter what colour you are, no matter your gender, if you know the love, the joy, the peace, the long suffering, the gentleness, the goodness, the faith, the meekness… it will bring you together in unity and harmony,” he said before expressing his admiration of the multicultural background of Guyanese people.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of the main sponsor, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T), Yog Mahadeo, said that the previous year has been a phenomenal one for the company and as a result, the managing team saw it most fit to complete that period of work by saying “Thank you lord”.

“We have done probably in every week for the past year community work… we have transformed our company from a purely business oriented company to a family oriented company where we have done community work in every village, in every town, in every part of Guyana,” he indicated.

He indicated that the mega gospel concert will be hosted inside the stadium, guaranteeing patrons seating and accommodation. This, Mahadeo said, was taken care of by the Manager of the Stadium, Anthony Xavier, Minister Frank Anthony and the Government of Guyana.

Stage front tickets for the concert are $3,000 while general admission is $1,500 and children are admitted at a charge of $800.
