CAL adds late-night flights

(Trinidad Express) Travellers can now catch a flight from Trinidad to Tobago, around the clock, as Caribbean Airlines (CAL) yesterday launched its daily “red eye” late-night service.

The flights on the domestic air bridge mean the Arthur NR Robinson International Airport at Crown Point in the sister island will now operate on a 24-hour basis.

These decisions, said Minority Leader of the Tobago House of Assembly Ashworth Jack, came less than two weeks after he wrote Transport Minister Devant Maharaj, asking him to consider the options.

“In less than 12 hours after I wrote him, he put the wheels in motion… Tobagonians will no longer have to overnight in Trinidad and business and pleasure can now be conducted with ease,” said Jack, during a CAL news conference yesterday at Piarco International Airport.

The new flight times are from Port of Spain to Tobago departing at 10.30 p.m.; from Tobago to Port of Spain departing at 11.30 p.m.; Port of Spain to Tobago departing at 12.35 a.m.; and from Tobago to Port of Spain departing at 1.30 a.m.

“This will improve the process of development in Trinidad and Tobago. It will give airlines new flexibility in scheduling and will only serve to increase the attractiveness of the country as an international destination for tourism, cargo and transit purposes. Tobago tourism will now become a more attractive, open (destination) for tour operators and also a more attractive stop for cargo and refuelling. It can only mean a boost to the revenues of Tobago,” said Maharaj.

The added flights are expected to ease the demand for Tobago trips during the peak Carnival season.

CAL also announced a daily non-stop service to George FL Charles International Airport in Castries, St Lucia.
