Bajan robbery accused gets chance to try for Olympic glory

(Barbados Nation) Chief Justice Marston Gibson has lifted travel restrictions on heavyweight boxer Anderson “Tootsie” Emmanuel to allow him a shot at Olympic glory.

Emmanuel, who is on bail on a robbery charge, is being allowed to travel to Santo Domingo, England, Brazil, and possibly Cuba, to participate in several events in hopes of qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games in July.

He left for Santo Domingo with other members of the Barbados team – Cobia Breedy, Adrian Biscette, Ricardo Blackman and coach Figuerado Bowen – yesterday morning, two days after Chief Justice Gibson ordered that his passport be returned.

The boxer surrendered his passport last December as a condition of his Bds$20 000 bail. But the Amateur Boxing Association of Barbados (ABAB) wrote the Registrar of the Supreme Court this month seeking permission for him to travel.
