Head of Eastern Caribbean Court resigns

(Jamaica Gleaner) The Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, Hugh Anthony Rawlins has resigned.

His resignation takes effect August 1.

Chairman of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony of St. Lucia, said a committee has been activated to choose his successor.

Justice Rawlins, who is from St. Kitts and Nevis has held the position of Chief Justice since May 2008, after Sir Dennis Byron retired.

Dr Anthony expressed appreciation to Rawlins for serving the people of the eastern Caribbean with dignity, character and honour.

He said he is aware that there are several challenges facing the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court and praised Rawlins for the way he handled them.
