Caricom concerned over `strangulation’ of Grenada

Caricom Heads meeting in Suriname have expressed concern over the severe impact on fellow member Grenada as a result of legal measure taken by the EXIM Bank of Taiwan to recover US$28M in loans.

The communiqué after the Caricom meeting yesterday and today said “Heads of Government were briefed on the severe strain on the economy of Grenada in light of the unprecedented legal measures taken by the EXIM Bank of Taiwan for repayment of loans amounting to US$28M.  They were concerned that such action amounted to economic strangulation of Grenada and expressed solidarity with the Government of Grenada in these trying circumstances.”
