Man shot dead at GNIC wharf while allegedly stealing

Police in Division ‘A’, Georgetown, say they are investigating the circumstances which led to the fatal shooting of Nicholas Da Silva, age 45 years, unemployed, of no fixed place of abode at the G.N.I.C Wharf, Lombard Street, Georgetown by security personnel about 22:35 hrs yesterday.

The police say it is alleged that Da Silva before his demise and an accomplice were seen in the compound stealing a transformer. The police said that upon being challenged by a guard who was at the time armed with a firearm, Da Silva retaliated and attacked him during which time the guard discharged a round hitting him in his abdomen.

Da Silva was taken to the GPHC for medical attention and later succumbed to injuries sustained at 05:30 hrs today.

The body is awaiting PME as investigations are continuing.
