Motion in Parliament to compulsorily acquire Sam Lord’s Castle land

(Barbados Nation) One of Barbados’ most famous but derelict hotels may feature in the House of Assembly tomorrow, with Minister of Housing and Lands Michael Lashley slated to move a resolution to compulsorily acquire land at Sam Lord’s Castle in Long Bay, St Philip.

The 23.5-hectare property, which houses the abandoned Sam Lord’s Castle Resort and accompanying buildings, is being acquired by Government for housing purposes, tourism development and beach access.

Notice was first given of the resolution in the Lower House in April 2010.

Other bills down for debate on the Order Paper are the Prevention of Corruption Bill, the Telecommunications (Amendment) Bill 2011, the Holidays With Pay Bill 2012, the National Petroleum Corporation (Amendment) Bill, and the Land Tax (Amendment) (No 2) Bill 2012.

There is also a resolution to approve the draft Electoral and Boundaries Order 2011 and another resolution to note and approve Protocol VI of the Social Partnership 2011-2013.
