Woman beaten to death at Roden Rust

A 38-year-old mother of four was early this morning beaten to death with an iron pipe by a man with whom she shared a relationship. The man, who later attempted to take his own life by ingesting a poisonous substance, is now hospitalized.

A badly injured Mohanie Gobind was picked up from athestoreroom of a house under construction at Roden Rust, East Bank Essequibo around 8.30 this morning, but she died while being transported to the Leonora Cottage Hospital. According to reports reaching this newspaper, the woman was battered in the head by a man, whose name was given as Ramesh, before he ran into some bushes and was later discovered frothing at the mouth and is now hospitalized.

It is not clear what transpired by reports are that the woman left her Mora, East Bank Essequibo home this morning for Silver Beach, East Bank Essequibo, where she worked as a domestic.

She did not report for work but ended up at Roden Rust, one village away, at a building where the man worked as a carpenter. Residents said the woman was discovered by the man’s co-workers and he was seen running into the bush. The iron pipe was found next to her.

According to reports, the two did not live together but she cooked food and took for him daily; yesterday she took no food.
