Fire set to bond of murdered Pest Co. owner

An attempt was made early this morning to burn down a bond owned by murdered Pest Control Plus boss Mohammed Baksh.

Fire Chief Marlon Gentle confirmed the incident which occurred sometime around 2 am. He said that the Fire Service received the first call at 2:09 and two tenders and a tanker were immediately dispatched to the Prashad Nagar location. There was an adequate supply of water to fight the blaze, he noted.

He said that fire-fighters managed to contain the blaze to the building which housed a bond on the bottom flat and an office on the upper flat. He said that the front of the building was damaged.

Gentle explained that based on initial investigations the fire was deliberately set.

Baksh, also known as Mohammed Shahabudeen Bacchus, was shot several times around 10 pm last at a grill on Thomas Street during an attack by two armed men. He sustained two gunshot wounds to the head and one to the hand. He died at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) while being prepared for emergency surgery the following day.

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud earlier this week confirmed that police had detained a businessman who had a matter with Baksh before the High Court.
