Counting underway in PNCR contest

Counting of ballots in the race for the leadership of the PNCR started at around 11 PM and is likely to continue for several hours,  a senior party official said.

Counting was to have been finished much earlier in the day for an announcement to be made this evening of who the leader would be. There appeared to have been several setbacks in the process throughout the day. Between 600 and 1,000 ballots were said to have been cast.

The two leading contenders are APNU Head and Opposition Leader David Granger and former Finance Minister Carl Greenidge.

PNCR internal elections have come under much scrutiny in the past and have been the subject of claims of rigging and unacceptable practices.
