Jamaican men advance to 200 metres semis

(Jamaica Gleaner) LONDON, England: All three Jamaicans have advanced impressively and comfortably to the semi-final of the men 200m with Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake – the two fastest men in history over the distance, talking up the possibility of a world record in the final.

Bolt, who is looking to become the first man to defend a sprint double at the Olympic Games, clocked 20.39 to win his heat with Blake, 20.38, and young Warren Weir, 20.29, in his first Olympic Games, doing likewise in their respective heats.

The world record-holder with a time of 19.19, at the 2009 IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, Germany, Bolt says he feels in world record form and that anything is possible given the speed of the track.

“Definitely, this is a pretty fast track and as you saw the 100m was pretty fast and I didn’t even go out there thinking about world records, so this 200m should be a good one,” Bolt said.

Blake, who registered the second fastest 200m time in history with a 19.26 clocking, is also not ruling out an assault on the world record.

“The track is fast, me and Usain are running fast and are in great shape, anything is possible,” Blake said.
