The female dormitory at the New Opportunity Corps on the Essequibo Coast was gutted at around 8:30 tonight as police were called in to quell a fresh disturbance as inmates stormed various departments at the facility.
According to the police, a tailor shop was also destroyed by the fire.
The incident occurred one day after students rampaged through the facility and fled the compound in a mass break-out on Wednesday night. A number of the inmates were apprehended yesterday. Alternative accommodation will now have to be found for the females.
