Police fired rubber bullets during Agricola unrest

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud earlier today confirmed that rubber bullets were discharged by the police during last night’s unrest in Agricola which saw traffic being blocked for several hours.

He however told Stabroek News that he was unaware of this resulting in any injuries. While at the scene this newspaper was told that persons had been struck with rubber bullets and later interviewed two shooting victims who were on their way to have the pellets removed. The police could not be contacted last night to confirm this.

Though the police were pelted with a variety of missiles during the unrest it was felt that they exercised restraint in handling the protesters.
