Senior Superintendent Alves refutes website attack

Senior Superintendent Lyndon Alves has denounced allegations on website about him which had among other things accused him of destabilizing the PPP/C government. His statement follows:

I write to express serious concern at comments published on Wednesday December 12, 2012 by unknown persons connected to the internet site http://www.newguymedia.com in an attempt to sully my professional character.  After careful consideration of the implications of this depraved act, I am constrained to set the records straight in the eyes of the public.

I have been accused by morally challenged persons of being associated with former Commissioner of Police Mr. Winston Felix, now a Member of Parliament, and engaged in acts intended to destabilize the PPP/C Administration. This misguided conclusion has apparently been arrived at as a result of a meeting I had in my office with Mr. Winston Felix on Tuesday December 11, 2012.

From the outset, I wish to make it categorically clear that the meeting with Mr. Winston Felix was in keeping with my Police responsibilities and not in any personal or private capacity.

I have no apology to offer to anyone for dealing in a professional manner with any member of parliament, whether from the opposition or government benches, in my capacity as a member of the Guyana Police Force.

On Tuesday December 11, 2012, the personal security for the Leader of the Opposition, who had been sworn as a Special Constable and trained in the handling, care, and custody of firearms, visited my office at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary, accompanied by Mr. Winston Felix, to be issued with a firearm. That was the sole purpose of Mr. Winston Felix’s visit to my office.

It is also alleged that Mr. Felix left my office with a file folder containing documents.  This is furthest from the truth since there was never any need for me to provide any documents to Mr. Felix and he did not arrive with any.

It was further claimed that I boast regularly about my affiliation to APNU and habitually make unsavory remarks about the Minister of Home Affairs.  I wish to make it absolutely clear that any affiliation I have with any political party, be it the PPP/C or APNU or otherwise, is entirely my own business and within my Constitutional right of association.  However let it be known that I have always executed my duties free from political or other considerations outside of my professional capacity and I dare anyone to prove otherwise.

With regards to the perverted untruth that I speak ill of Minister Mr. Clement Rohee, at least I deserve some credit for knowing that there will always be persons who feel that they deserve to be in my position; but for me to speak intemperately of public figures, particularly the Police subject Minister, may be a case of career suicide in the Guyana context.

I am also accused of introducing the alleged rape victim in the matter involving the late Mr. Henry Greene to Mr. Winston Felix.  I wish to clarify that the one and only time that I saw the woman in question was when I, as second-in-command ‘A’ Division, was summoned to a meeting in the Divisional Commander’s office where she was accompanied by her lawyer, and made the report of allegation of rape against Mr. Henry Greene. I never again laid eyes on the individual.

I will not dignify with a response the insane ramblings that I have authorized the unleashing of violence against Afro-Guyanese to make the PPP/C look bad, as well as the delusional tale that I demand a daily extortion fee from anti-crime patrols, except to say that the Psychiatric Ward should make an urgent head count.

Maybe the administrator of the website has me confused with some other person.

Yours faithfully,

Lyndon Alves

Officer in Charge Tactical Services Unit
