Brazilian woman shot in Bartica, cops hunt suspect

The police are on the hunt for a man who shot a female Brazilian national on Wednesday after a row over money.

Antonia Priscilla Lamego Dos Thangas, 24, of First Avenue, Bartica, was shot to her abdomen by man and has been admitted to the Bartica Hospital, police said in a press release.

The shooting occurred around 11pm.

A senior police official told Stabroek News that the woman claims that she and her assailant went out and he gave her $20,000 cash but later asked her to return the money. She refused and an argument ensued between the two, which resulted in the man pulling out his firearm and shooting Dos Thangas.

The official said that the suspect, who is not a licensed firearm holder, is identifiable based on the information provided to the police but he may have fled further into the interior.

The woman remains a patient at the hospital and is said to be in a stable condition
