Police find rifle with telescopic lens

Two rifles including one fitted with a telescopic lens were yesterday afternoon discovered in a Kitty house and up to press time last evening two brothers were in police custody in connection with the find.

Stabroek News understands that the men were in the house located at Lot 31 Railway Embankment when about a dozen policemen turned up.

Police said in a press release that two .243 rifles, one a Winchester and the other a Remington, were found at about 14:20 hours at the Kitty address by ranks of Division ‘A’ Georgetown.

The Winchester rifle, the release added was fitted with a telescopic lens.

When Stabroek News visited the scene residents expressed shock at the discovery and the arrest of the men. The house where the men resided was locked up. According to one woman, the brothers have only been residing at the Kitty address for about a month. She said that she was heading to her home when she saw the police leaving.

The woman who did not want her name published said that one of the brothers fixed motorcycles at his home. She said that she was shocked since they did not come across as persons who handled guns.

Another resident said that the commotion woke him up around 3 pm and when he looked out he saw about two van loads of police at the house. He said that later he saw when police came out with the brothers and the two guns which were waist high in length.

He said that he was not familiar with the men as he did not mingle with other residents.

Stabroek News was told that the men lived alone and persons would come on weekends to visit.
