Men drowned in Puruni River mishap

Autopsies performed on the bodies of the two men recovered after the mishap in the Puruni River on Monday revealed that they died as a result of asphyxiation due to drowning.

The bodies of George Bowman, called ‘George Bush,’ 35, of Lot 535 Section B South, Sophia and Devon ‘Sadam’ Cadogan, 22, of Lot 22 West La Penitence were recovered on Wednesday morning, almost two days after the men fell overboard when their boat capsized.

According to Bowman’s mother, Helena Smith, who initially suspected his death to be  the result of foul play, she is now satisfied after she was told that he died due to drowning and blunt trauma to the head. She said that the police have explained that he was apparently injured when he went down into the river. He was buried yesterday.

Cadogan’s mother, Donna Cadogan, said he will be buried tomorrow.
