Private Corentyne hospital to offer dialysis services soon

The Anamayah Memorial Hospital at Belvedere, Corentyne will soon be providing dialysis services, giving a life-line to Berbicians who now have to travel to Georgetown for such treatment.

At the hospital’s one year anniversary on July 28, Medical Director, Dr. Ryan Anamayah said the service, badly needed by Berbice Kidney disease patients, would come on stream “within the next few weeks.”

Dr. Anamayah said “our services are improving and expanding daily” and he also disclosed that the hospital would introduce a CT scan service before yearend.

The first Anamayah (centre) and the first set of twins born at the Anamayah Memorial Hospital were part of the anniversary celebrations recently

At the special anniversary event, he informed the gathering, which included family members, staff and community representatives, that the hospital has “a fully functioning ICU [Intensive Care Unit] with ventilator; a service that is presently not offered by any other facility in Berbice.”

He thanked the hospital’s 25 permanent staff members, who include nurses, technicians, pharmacists and clerks, for their dedicated service. Appreciation plaques were also presented to some of the employees including five doctors.

He said too that for the past year they have had “in excess of 5,000 out-patients and over 300 in-patients.”

“Our modern operating theatres have also seen a lot of action, and just a few months ago we had multiple surgeries at the same time.”

He noted too that they have performed “well over 170 surgeries” for such conditions as hysterectomy, appendectomy, and haemorrhoids.

In his address, Chief Executive Officer Ian Anamayah said the facility offers x-ray services, ultra sound, all lab testing, a comprehensively stocked pharmacy, and in-patient and out-patient clinics, including gynaecology, paediatrics and orthopaedics. He added, “We are particularly proud of the obstetrics and gynaecology department, as we have had 48 babies born at the hospital, including twins. We are also pleased to tell you that all the mothers and their babies have left the hospital quite happy and healthy.”
