NFMU seeks more info on Channel 6 signal disruption

Head of the National Frequency Management Unit (NFMU) Valmikki Singh has written To CNS Channel 6 concerning the disruption of the station’s transmission signal, which has been ongoing for over three weeks.

Co-owner of the station Savitri Singh told Stabroek News yesterday that the NFMU head asked that they provide them with some information.

She, however, added that she no longer wishes for the matter to be followed up any longer by this newspaper.

She had also mentioned to Stabroek News that the situation was causing the station to lose business and one sponsor had even pulled out from its programme.

Savitri Singh had previously said viewers were calling in and complaining of the interference, which she suggested was an attempt to put CNS Channel 6 out of business because people would not want to advertise with a channel if they could not hear their advertisements clearly on air.

Broadcaster Enrico Woolford, in a statement on the matter, had called on the NFMU to publish the names of those allocated or operating on the national frequency in Guyana for public or cable broadcasting. “The airwaves are a limited public resource and the public needs to know who owns what or who was allocated what,” he had said.
