Did not say that the cricket IMC was a failure

Dear Editor,

It is with profound disgust that I read a letter written by Mr Rajendra Singh who describes himself as President of the Demerara Cricket Board (‘The government must allow the GCB to carry out its functions,’ SN, September 17). The letter in part stated, “I am informed that Mr Hilbert Foster did indicate in a recent letter to the press that the IMC is a failure and will not solve the current issues.”

I do not know where Mr Singh got his information from but it is incorrect. What I did express was my personal disappointment in the pace of the work of the IMC. No mention was ever made that the IMC would never solve the cricketing problems, so I wonder what the objective of Mr Singh’s informant was. I have and always will have the greatest respect for Mr Clive Lloyd who along with Sir Vivian Richards was my childhood hero, and I know that the ‘Super Cat’ has the interest of Guyana’s cricket at heart and will succeed. Expressing disappointment in the pace of work does not mean failure.

My advice to Mr Singh is to follow the Berbice Cricket Board’s example of producing unbelievable progress and development and let the work speak for itself. This misrepresentation of my simple remarks only makes my resolve to stay far away from the Guyana Cricket Board even stronger, as something like this would never happen with my colleagues in the Berbice Cricket Board.

Yours faithfully,
Hilbert Foster,
