ROFLOL! Apart from the fact that “Gangnam Style” is an insanely hilarious and crazy song; the video is to die for. It’s funny that the American pop industry is so bad we have to start listening to Korean! What’s even funnier is that PSY, the singer is actually rapping!
I can’t get this song out of my head; it’s like a Justin Bieber song – awful, but catchy. This annoying yet catchy tune is all over the TV, radio and Internet; it has recently made history by being the most viewed Video on YouTube with 274,000,000 views. Big names in the Music Industry like T-Pain, Katy Perry, Brittney Spears and Nelly Furtado are sharing this song.
The world has been captivated by “Gangnam Style”. Flash Mobs are appearing all over cities, dance competitions, parodies and mock offs from the US Naval Academy and even the Korean Government! PSY’s “Gangnam Style” is, strangely, a hit! It was number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
PSY is sitting on the pedestal of fame right now,just the last couple of weeks he was on the Ellen DeGeneres show, NBC’s Today Show, numerous commercials and the buzz of Paparazzi. Not to get into international politics but I wonder if North Korea elites are watching the video too.
Guyana has joined the craze. Video Hit lists, HJTV, Radio and of course GTTROLL on Facebook made a parody sketch of it called “Ghansham Style” where Joel Ghansham’s face was photo-shopped on to PSY’s body.
On Thursday when the West Indies won the international T20 match against England, Chris Gayle did a PSY, breaking into the weird, rodeo-style dance and promising to celebrate “Gangnam Style” every time he takes a wicket.
About the song: In an interview PSY said the song basically highlights what he imagines the perfect girl to be like; A girl who knows when to be refined and when to get wild. OPPA is a Korean expression used by women to refer to an older brother or male friend. GANGNAM refers to a southern district in Korea; business like and serene in the day which turns to a loom of entertainment and flashes at night. PSY basically is referring to himself saying “Big Brother is [for] Gangnam style.”
The video is hilarious and beautifully odd! Clumsy dance moves, eccentric actions, bright and colourful fashion… I’m telling you, PSY is the new Lady Gaga. Costume businesses are already making PSY and Gangnam Style costumes for Halloween in the upcoming month, I’m even seeing a few friends on Facebook starting to dress the part.
Guyanese are adding their versions into the lyrics; little kids are ‘parroting’ the unusual words and old people are highly annoyed at the trash we listen to. An entire bus will burst into the chorus if it is playing on the radio!
Korean Pop language is apparently the new thing, at least for now. Let’s see if PSY will climb the ladder of fame, die slowly or fall rather fast.
