(Jamaica Observer) The Office of the Contractor General (OCG) won a major battle yesterday when the Supreme Court rejected an application by the Ministry of Transport and Works challenging its authority to monitor and probe the Independent Oversight Panel set up to oversee three multimillion-dollar building projects.
Justice Lennox Campbell, who had in July reserved judgement, yesterday refused the ministry’s application for judicial review of the OCG’s powers to probe the body that was set up by the Government early last year to monitor the North-South Toll Highway, the Fort Augusta Port project and the Gordon Cay expansion.
Justice Campbell’s written judgement is to be issued next week.
The panel had ceased functioning pending the outcome of the matter.
The ministry had brought the court action after the OCG started its probe of the panel and refused to back down.
