Tower no longer to be built on Plaisance Ground

Engineer with the Ministry of Public Works and Communications Walter Willis today said that the tower which was slated to be erected at the Plaisance/Industry Community Centre Ground for the government’s e-governance project will be relocated.

The decision to build the tower on that spot had been strongly opposed by residents who began protest actions on Sunday, when they stopped ongoing works to the structure’s foundation, with follow up picketing exercises yesterday and again today. The residents said that they were not consulted on the project and that they would continue to bar the tower’s erection.

Speaking to Stabroek News today Willis said that a meeting was still being planned so that the residents of the community could be engaged on the matter, but he disclosed that a decision has already been taken to find another suitable location for the tower.
