Jamaica security firm being probed over drugs

(Jamaica Gleaner) A prominent security firm with operations in St James is now the subject of a major drug investigation after law enforcers seized a large quantity of drugs aboard one of its marked vehicles, the police have revealed.

The police have, however, withheld the name of the security firm.

Detectives attached to the Major Organised and Anti-Corruption Task Force, along with teams from the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division and the Jamaica Defence Force, seized the drugs, valued at about $264 million, along the Mount Carey main road in the parish about 8:30 p.m. yesterday.

The Constabulary Communication Network says the joint police and military team stopped and searched the vehicle in which they found about 66 kilograms of cocaine.

Two men, who were in the vehicle at the time of the incident, have been arrested and are to be questioned with a view to charging them. Their identities are being withheld pending more investigations.
