Former T&T govt minister Dumas found guilty of assault

(Trinidad Express) Former People’s National Movement government minister Rennie Dumas was today convicted on two charges of assault in the Scarborough Magistrate’s Court.

His sentencing has been deferred to May 2 by Senior Magistrate Nanette Forde-John.

Dumas, a former Member of Parliament for Tobago East, was convicted of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm against Roger Simon and committing an act of common assault against Simon, a security officer.

The matter stemmed from a dispute between Simon and Dumas, at Arnos Vale, Plymouth, on June 1, 2011.

Acting Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions George Busby represented the State while Dumas was represented by former attorney general John Jeremie and Keith Scotland.
