Man chucked girlfriend into KFC glass wall – court hears

Magistrate Sueanna Lovell yesterday remanded a 31-year-old man accused of assaulting his girlfriend, causing $300,000 damage to a KFC restaurant  and behaving disorderly at a police station.

The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court heard that on March 16, Orin McKenzie maliciously damaged a glass wall belonging to KFC. It was also alleged that on the same day, at Vlissengen Road, he unlawfully assaulted Shonette Daly, so as to cause her actual bodily harm. It was further alleged that on the said day, at the Kitty Police Station, he behaved disorderly.

McKenzie, who appeared in court without counsel, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Police Corporal Denise Booker told the court that on the day in question, around 4pm, the defendant went to KFC, where he saw his girlfriend eating in the restaurant. He approached Daly and they began a heated argument when he became annoyed and allegedly pushed her into the glass wall.

The police were contacted and McKenzie was arrested and charged with the offence.
In his defence Mc Kenzie told the court that his girlfriend constantly does things that he does not appreciate and when he tries to talk to her about her behaviour, she tells him that “she is de boss.” He also said that he once lived with Daly in Albouystown, but since the incident he has been living with his mother at Paradise, West Coast Berbice.

Booker objected to bail stating that at the time of his arrest, McKenzie told police that he was living in Albouystown and that he is now telling the court he is living in Berbice. The prosecution said this indicates that McKenzie is a flight risk.
The defendant was remanded and ordered to return to court on April 22.
