CAL to add additional flight for a month

Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Irfaan Ali has announced that Caribbean Airlines (CAL) will fly an additional flight for a month from Monday, adding 900 more seats to the current complement.

CAL, which has been named as Guyana’s flag carrier,  will fly for a period of one-month, Ali said at a media briefing on Friday, according to a GINA release. The ministry is also exploring adding more airlines to the Guyana route from June 27 to September month-end so that there will be daily flights in addition to the current roster.

“You will have daily flights to the US…in addition to that, once the traffic remains high, the daily flights will continue past September into the Christmas season,” Ali said.

The ministry has undertaken several measures to market ‘Destination Guyana’ as a creditable tourist spot through the Guyana Tourism Authority and it is expected that tourist arrivals will increase.

“Government is indeed putting a lot of emphasis on tourism now….we have also seen a tremendous increase in traffic to our website,” Ali said.

CEO of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, Ramesh Ghir also said that CAL will fly two weekly flights to Toronto and steps are being taken to contract routes on every continent.
