Women should begin to look at themselves

Dear Editor,
After reading about all these domestic violence cases, physical and mental abuse, molestations of young girls and in some cases young boys, and different perverse behaviours, I think it is time women begin to look at themselves; question themselves. The main question should be, what is my purpose on earth?

In my opinion, to some extent it seems like some women have become robotized invalids. They are visible yet invisible; important and yet purposeless in all that is going on. They are like zombies; living yet dead, numbed, speechless, senseless and most of all, weak. I do wonder if there is psychological damage. I guess yes, if there is psychological abuse.

Women, I think, have to really get a grip on themselves and know that this whole world revolves around them. In some cases I think women are blind to the truth; blind to the reality and the purpose of their lives and that is to protect the young and to exercise wisdom using their inborn intuition.

Instead, they cherish lifeless material things—house, car, clothes and jewellery—they prefer to have those than their lives. It may sound harsh but that is what many of these women who are victims of domestic abuse portray. Wake up my sisters to the reality of life and know your purpose.

Human beings—that is both male and female—are supposed to be of a higher intelligence. Is there a perverted psychological breakdown in the human family? If so it must be addressed. The quality of choice and decision-making separates the human being from animals, and if you look carefully at animals they do protect their young and they would make humans uncomfortable about fulfilling that instinct of protectionism within them. For those who know, if a mother hen has her chicks in the yard you cannot go within a certain range; she’s going to peck you.

There’s a story I’d like to share. There’s a bird nest on my verandah and one of the guys decided to peep into it and was caught doing so. After then he couldn’t sit on the verandah in peace. The bird pecked him every time until the young birds left that nest and flew away. Only then was he free to sit again.

These animals are supposed to have less intelligence than humans, yet they know they have to protect themselves and their young. What is happening to human females? They are not protecting themselves and young any more? Why are they leaving themselves in the open? Because they were schooled that men are there for their protection? Well sad news for women; they are rarely making those types of men any more. That’s the reason for single parenting today. You have women haters instead of women protectors. And the family is being threatened because some women seem to have lost their sense of direction, importance and purpose.

Many a time you read that a man goes home drunk and picks up a knife, or starts fighting. Recently a 63-year-old man was charged with stabbing his stepdaughter to death. Then there are those young women in the gold bush at 14-18, so where are their parents? Who gave the consent for them to leave home at such a tender age? Have mothers resorted to me first and children after?

If there is a law I would like to see it being enforced. There is a need for something to be done so that women know it is their duty to protect their young and be serious about it until they are adults.

With parenthood under threat, the reality is that women—mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunties—will always get the blame. Why? Because women are the creators and the first teachers of the young. Who teaches and protects the animals’ young? The female of course; the male most times has disappeared. So what is happening to the woman, the mother of the human being; where is her aggression?

There is a need for ‘a women’s only’ forum touching on all the aspects of womanhood and parenthood.
Yours faithfully,
J Hughes
