Defending champs Marian Academy to face off with East La Penitence

Twelve matches are set to be contested today at Thirst Park  when the Petra Organization/ Courts Guyana Incorporated in collaboration with Banks DIH Limited stages its fourth Pee Wee U11 football tournament.

The tournament, which was launched  on September  11 at the Courts Main Street office will see 24 schools competing in a round robin format.

The teams will be divided into six groups and the top two from each group  will advance to the round of 16 along with the four best third place finishers.

At every playing date 12 fixtures will be contested and each match up will  be 20 minutes in duration.

A march past with the respective schools will take place at 10:00hrs while in the opening games at 10:30hrs, defending champs Marian Academy will face off with East La Penitence while St. Margaret’s will lock horns with Green Acres.

At 11:20hrs, Redeemer Primary will oppose Sophia Primary whilst St. Ambrose will tackle Enterprise Primary.

Tucville Primary will open their campaign against Winfer Gardens while South Ruimveldt takes on West Field Primary at 12:10hrs.     Ketley Primary faces St. Angelas while F.E. Pollard engages Success Primary at 13:00hrs. At 13:50hrs, West Ruimveldt will do battle with Stella Maris Primary whilst St. Gabriel’s lock horns with St. Stephens.

In the final two fixtures at 14:40hrs, North Georgetown will face J.E. Burnham and St. Sidwell’s will tackle St. Puis.

In an initiative to raise the playing level of the event, Petra in partnership with the Guyana Football Coaches Association (GFCA) staged a two-day beginners workshop at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue on September 21 and 22.

Teachers and individuals responsible for preparing the school teams were taught basic coaching techniques by  coaches Sampson Gilbert and Wayne Dover to help  better organize and prepare their schools.
