APNU says fully committed to no-confidence motion

A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) today said it has committed itself to supporting the No Confidence’ motion against the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Administration and that there is no change from that position.

In a statement it said ”APNU wants to state clearly that our call for His Excellency, President Donald Ramotar to name a date and set the machinery in place for the holding of local government elections is in no way contradictory, but rather complimentary of our stated position regarding local democracy and respect for the Constitution of Guyana.

“After 20 years of a total neglect and destruction of our local democratic organs, the people of Guyana are entitled to know when local government elections will be held and local democracy restored.“

The no-confidence motion is to come up in October and if passed by the opposition’s one-seat majority will lead to early general elections.
