Tourism association disgusted over spoof video

The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) today said it has seen and is “totally disgusted” by a video on Facebook and on other media made by a person or persons deliberately showing slum and neglected areas of Georgetown and dubbing the voice and image of Minister of Tourism, Irfaan Ali over the video.

The Minister’s image and voice was taken from a video made by the Guyana Tourism Authority, promoting Guyana as a tourist destination.

A statement from THAG noted that the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with and the full support of THAG and with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank had recently made a substantial investment in engaging the services of an International Marketing Agency to brand Guyana as a Tourism destination to be discovered.

“Irrespective of your views on the original video, the person or persons who have produced this grossly misleading and damaging distortion of our Country’s image may consider themselves politically clever, when, in fact, they are incredibly stupid, causing incalculable damage to our industry by this reprehensible behaviour”, THAG said.

It condemned this “disgraceful and unwarranted behaviour, clearly intended to gain cheap political mileage at the expense of our Country’s tourism industry.”
