Pregnant woman placed on bond after larceny case dismissed

A pregnant woman was yesterday placed on a bond to keep the peace after she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged with simple larceny.

The charge against Natalie Benjamin is that on November 17 at Robb & Cummings streets, Georgetown, she stole $600,000 belonging to Wayne Smith of Fourth Avenue, Bartica.

Benjamin pleaded not guilty to the charge read to her by Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat told the court that $300,000 of the money was recovered and given back to Smith. Prosecutor Deniro Jones indicated that this was indeed the case, adding that Smith had indicated to him that he did not wish to proceed with the matter.

After listening to the facts, the magistrate dismissed the case and placed Benjamin on a bond to keep the peace; if she fails she faces six months’ imprisonment. Magistrate McLennan also ordered that the recovered money be returned to Smith immediately.
