South Ruimveldt blitzes Christ Church 9-1

South Ruimveldt Secondary walloped Christ Church Secondary by a 9-1 margin when the fourth annual Digicel national u-18 knockout football championship continued at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue yesterday.

Xavier Scott opened the scoring for the South Ruimveldt unit in the eighth minute, lashing his effort from the centre of the box, into the lower left-hand corner of the goal, after latching onto a poorly cleared ball by the defender.

Keith Caines would double their lead two minutes later with a left-footed strike into the lower right side of the goal, after evading his marker within the right side of the box following a left-sided through pass.

It would become 3-0 in the 24th minute as Scott sealed his brace, slotting home his right-footed strike down the centre of the net, from within the middle of the box, after collecting a flat right-sided Caines cross.

The score line would increase once more one minute later as Caines grabbed his brace through a right-footed shot down the middle of the goal, from within the 18-yard box.

The lopsided encounter would continue as Abdul Edwards added his name to the scorer’s sheet in the 38th minute, volleying his effort down the middle of the goal from within the area, after flicking the ball over his onrushing marker following a left sided cross.

Jermaine Beckles would then add to the score in the 47th minute, directing his header from within the left side of the box, into the left hand corner of the net, after latching onto a cross from the right side of the field.

It would then become 7-0 in the 54th minute as Kevin McPherson netted with a lobbed shot into the left-hand corner of the goal, from within the right side of the area.

Christ Church would eventually pull one back four minutes later through a Shamar Carrington header down the middle of the goal, after pouncing on a deflected shot inside the centre of the penalty box by the opposing keeper.

However Caines would add to the score once more as he completed his hat trick in the 62nd minute through a penalty kick conversion to the right hand side of the net.

The easy win would be completed six minutes later as Caines sealed his helmet trick, placing his right-footed effort into the lower left-hand corner, after racing into the left side of the 18-yard box.

The action will continue today across four divisions with six matchups slated. In the Region Two zone, Wakapoa Secondary will faceoff with Charity Secondary at the Charity Community ground from 14:00hrs whilst 8th of May Secondary will tackle Cottonfield Secondary in the second matchup at 16:00hrs.

Over at the Den Amstel ground, West Demerara Secondary will engage the Institute of Professional Education from 15:30hrs at the Den Amstel ground.

In the Georgetown conference, Guyana Industrial Training Centre will face off with St. Winifred Secondary at 15:30hrs at the Ministry of Education ground while the Business School and Morgan Learning Institute will lock horns at the Eve Leary ground in the second fixture slated for the same time.

The Region Four section will witness Beterverwagting Secondary tackling Golden Grove Secondary at the Victoria ground from 15:30hrs and Covent Garden Secondary facing off with Camille’s Secondary at the same time at the Grove Community ground.
