Police say thief with two cutlasses shot after attacking cops

At about 0130h. today, the police say that vendor Walter Drakes, 46 years, of Smyth Street, Georgetown, was riding a bicycle along Croal Street when he was held up by a man armed with two cutlasses.

A release from the police said that the perpetrator took away a bag containing confectionery and escaped.

Quick response by the police on receipt of the report, led to the arrest of the suspect at Hadfield Street and the recovery of the stolen articles.

The release said that during efforts to arrest him, the suspect attacked the police with the cutlasses and was shot to his legs.

He has given his name as Gully Ross and is under guard at the GPHC where he was admitted for medical treatment.
