PPP complains about ‘breaches’ at regional councils

The PPP today complained about what it said were breaches of democracy at regional democratic councils. The PPP press release follows:

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has been notified by the Party’s Chairperson of the seven (7) Regional Democratic Councils of flagrant breaches of the democracy by senior functionaries of the Granger-led Administration in the PPP/C controlled RDCs, the Chairpersons noted that Granger appointed Regional Executive Officers and encouraged them to subvert the authority of the Council elected by residents of the Region.
Parks, the Regional Executive Officer in Region 5 is leading the Council in an independent initiative into Regional actions on topical issues.
Ramayya, Regional Executive Officer of Region 6, is independently using regional resources to implement actions not sanctioned by the Council.
The Regional Executive Officer at Region 2 is now being urged to coordinate activities in Region 2 in preparation for celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Independence. Ministers are reportedly visiting the Administrative Regions without observing the customary protocols and subverting the authority of the Council.
The Regional Chairpersons collectively have agreed to maintain a solid line in insisting that the resources to be spent in the Region must be authorized by the Council.
Only then, the Chairpersons asserts, would democracy at the lowest level be promoted and protected and the subversion of the authority of the elected Councils by the Granger Administration be averted.
