Lusignan toddler shot dead during attack on grandma

A toddler is dead and a 12 year old girl hospitalized after a man discharged rounds at an Eastville Housing Scheme, Lusignan house earlier this afternoon before later escaping.

Dead is 13 month old Arian Gill who sustained a single gunshot wound in the region of her shoulder. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Hospital. Her relative 12-year old Ashley Wellington is currently receiving treatment at the same medical institution for gunshot wounds to her leg and thigh. The intended target 44-year-old Shelly Norton was not harmed during the attack which occurred around 1:30 pm.

According to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, Norton is Gill’s grandmother. The shooter and Norton were in a relationship but separated about a month ago, Blanhum said. The man who has been identified as Mark Ango, age 35, is on the run and police are expected to issue a wanted bulletin for him before the end of the day.

Blanhum told Stabroek News that Norton who owns a shop in the interior had a restraining order against the man. He went to the Lot 38 residence and discharged three rounds at a southern window. At the time of the shooting the two children were in the sitting room area while Norton was in her bedroom. The bullets struck the children.

Investigators are on the scene.
