GFF forensic audit report revelations troubling

UDFA President Sharma Solomon said the revelations from the GFF forensic audit is very troubling and that the entity following consultations with its General Council, will decide who it will support at today’s Electoral Congress.

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) recently released their forensic audit for the period of 2011-2012 to its membership for perusal ahead of today’s Electoral Congress at the Cara Lodge.

Speaking exclusively to Stabroek News, Solomon said “It is very troubling the results coming out of the audit. We find it glaring, the management at the time of the federation, the sole sourcing of items and the close relations that existed between persons inside the federation and the persons who they did business with.”

He noted that he was integral in requesting for a forensic audit to be conducted by the Ram and McRae which shows how much accountability and transparency means to the association.

“The recommendations is sufficient ground to recognize the competency of who did the audit,” said Solomon.

Solomon further said that the association took a conscious decision through its finance committee to have a more detailed analysis done on the report by a qualified individual from their end as they are not experts in the field.

“We find it very troubling, we will have discussions with our General Council on the results of the audit and other matters which will guide our decision regarding tomorrow (today)”.

Asked about his thoughts on the federation being incorporated, Solomon noted that while every corporation would want to be managed more efficiently, the manner in which it was revealed was disappointing.

He noted that the GFF General Council is the highest decision making body and despite being a part of a recent General Council meeting, that topic did not come up.

According to Solomon “The way it was done with information being disseminated to members of the general council, a matter that is so important we should not have read about it in the press”.

“The Normalization Committee had the opportunity to inform the General Council about the incorporation and what it means for how football is going to be governed and they did not. I find it out of place that we had to find out in the press” he added.
