Total shutdown in Demerara-Berbice power system

At 5:45 hours this morning, the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) said that the Demerara Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS) experienced a total shutdown. At present, investigations are ongoing to determine the primary cause of the shutdown but initial indications are that it was a result of a fault at the Kingston DP3 station, where troubleshooting is still ongoing.
Restoration of power to all areas was hampered, GPL said, by ongoing problems at the Kingston Plant, but by 6:10 hours power was restored from Garden of Eden to Timehri and Kuru Kururu, and from Skeldon to Moleson Creek. Full restoration was accomplished at 9:04 hours when areas in Georgetown were repowered.
GPL regrets any inconvenience caused.
This is the latest in a series of such shutdowns in the DBIS.
