Injured GuySuCo workers out of hospital

The nine sugar workers who were hospitalized after a truck overturned at Albion on Thursday last have been discharged.

According to Chief Executive Officer of the Berbice Regional Health Authority (BRHA) Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo, the injured Canje harvesters were sent home on Friday.

He noted that the men are expected to return within a week for checkups at the clinic.

The injured persons were Premnauth Rawana, 58, Vickram Mangal, 34 , Fizal Ghanie, 41, Ramdass Mooklall, 48, all of Port Mourant; Risham Seeram, 44, Goberdan VinKoya, 29, Devendra Balkarran, 29 all of Whim and Colin Vandam Moore, 23, and Garfield Park Jr, 21, both from Lancaster. Balkarran, Mangal and Park sustained serious injuries to their heads and backs.

According to the Guyana Sugar Corporation’s Albion/Port Mourant estate, the incident occurred sometime after 5 AM. The lorry that was transporting fifty nine cane harvesters GEE 2664 was in the process of taking the workers of the 17B gang to their work station.

It was reported that whilst descending from a bridge the lorry slid on clay whilst it was raining and as a result it toppled into a nearby trench.
