City miner accused of gunpoint robbery remanded

A Kingston miner was yesterday remanded to prison after appearing at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with using a gun to rob a woman of $700,000 in cash and gold.

Reginald Williams, 34, of Fourth Street, Kingston, was accused of robbing Maria De Rosario of 70 grammes of raw gold, $575,000 and Bolivar $375 while being armed with a gun. The total value of the gold and money taken was stated to be $700,000.

Williams, who was unrepresented by counsel, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan

Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that on the day of the robbery, the defendant entered a shop where the complainant was sleeping and pointing a gun to her head, demanded that she hand over the articles. The prosecutor objected to bail being granted, citing the seriousness of the offence and the fact that a gun was used during the incident.

Williams was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on December 15th.
