A fisherman was remanded to prison when he appear-ed before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court to answer a charge of break and enter and larceny.
The court heard that on October 15, Imran Ally, 20, of Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara broke into the home of Anand Ramnarine also at Meten-Meer-Zorg.
He reportedly stole two bird cages valued $12,000, one music amplifier worth $45,000, two music devices costing $20,000, one pair scissors worth $1,500, two pairs silver rings valued $10,000 and other articles, totalling $90,000.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Harris said that around 9 pm on October 14 the virtual complainant secured his one-flat concrete house and went to sleep.
Around 6 the following morning he woke up to find his kitchen door and front door open. Upon checking, he discovered the articles missing and reported the matter to the Leonora Police Station.
Based on investigations, Ally was contacted and told of the allegations. Further investigations led to the recovery of the rings at the home of someone that Ally tried to sell them to.
Objecting to bail, the prosecutor argued about the prevalence of the offence and told the court that Ally was previously charged with similar offences.
He submitted too that the defendant, who had told the court he works at sea, was unemployed at the time and has no fixed place of abode.
Ally, who told the court that he found the rings, is scheduled to return to court on November 20 for report and fixture.
