Nurse charged over $500,000 theft

A Georgetown Public Hospital nurse was yesterday placed on $60,000 bail after she appeared before a city court on an allegation that she stole $500,000 from a Bank of Nova Scotia account.

Charmaine Blair, 32, of Lot 14 Supply, was accused of stealing the sum of $500,000 from the account of Arthur Manget at the Bank of Nova Scotia during April this year, at Carmichael Street. No further details were provided.

Blair, who pleaded not guilty, was represented by attorney Dexter Todd. Making an application for bail on her behalf, Todd stated that his client was not a flight risk, which was evident from the fact that she has reported regularly to the police since the start of the investigation.

As the prosecution had no objections to bail, Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan granted same in the sum of $60,000 to the defendant and adjourned the matter to January 18.
