According to Shivdass, on August 24 at around 5.30 am, she was heading back to the Corentyne ferry and boarded a minibus attached to the Champ Bus and Taxi Service located at Lot 4 Brothers Village, Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD). She recalled that while on the way, the driver of the minibus was calling various passengers informing them that he was going to pick them up.

However, as they approached the Enmore Public Road, Shivdass said, the driver who was speeding, lost control of the bus causing it to tumble and “shift” before it eventually ended up in a nearby canal.

The woman said that as a result of the accident, she sustained injuries to her head, back and shoulders. The passengers were picked up by another minibus driver who was passing at the time and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they received medical attention.

According to Shivdass, while at the hospital, she recalled seeing a police officer trying to enquire from the passengers what had transpired. However, she was unable to say if anyone spoke with the rank.

She added that her telephone number was given to the officer but she was never contacted.

As such, she is under the impression that the matter was forgotten. She is calling on the police to conduct an investigation since she still suffers from terrible pains caused by the injuries she sustained.
