A victory for all Guyanese

Dear Editor,

The victory of the APNU+AFC at the May 11 general and regional elections is a victory for all Guyanese. Every ethnic group should feel safe and secure and we must embrace each other while working for the further peace, security and economic transformation of this great land, while defending our young democracy.

The newly elected government should seek to create an atmosphere of inclusivity through dialogue with the past administration and now opposition People’s Progressive Party/Civic, which represents the voices of over 49% of the Guyanese people.

We must not forget the unselfish contribution and character of the AFC Leader and Minister of National Security Khemraj Ramjattan in agreeing to put country above self; homage must be paid to the memory of the late AFC co-founder Mrs Sheila Holder and Minister Raphael Trotman, the Hugheses and many others who have worked tirelessly to ensure change.

All Guyanese must also thank Former President Mr Donald Ramotar for his contributions towards Guyana’s development.

The hope of a nation now rests on the strong shoulders of President David Granger, Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo and their entire Cabinet; may God grant them the wisdom to lead this beautiful land of six peoples into peace, progress and prosperity.

We must now leave the campaigning behind and hold each other’s hands in unity and find common ground towards economic growth, social justice and freedom for all.

As expected everything cannot be done in a short time, but we must support our government in their quest for a better life for all Guyanese.

Our Parliament will soon be reconvening and we are looking forward to all elected parliamentarians moving on with the people’s business of nation-building. We also look forward to a strong and vibrant opposition in the PPP/C, which sadly lost because of its refusal to listen the plight of the masses.

Yours faithfully,
Andre Fortune
