Schools around Georgetown prison closed

The public is being advised that schools around the Georgetown Prison and its environs are closed due to the Georgetown Prison unrest, an alert from GINA said this morning.

Parents are advised to collect their children from these schools immediately.

The Ministry of Education today listed the schools as follows:

  • 1.     Smyths Street Nursery
  • 2.     Smith Memorial Primary
  • 3.     St. Stephen’s Primary
  • 4.     Brickdam Secondary
  • 5.     Central High
  • 6.     Freeburg Secondary

As a result of the operation by the Joint Services to contain the situation at the Georgetown Prison, several streets in the area have been cordoned off. Citizens who do not live in the area are asked to avoid the area until further notice, GINA said. Vehicular traffic should utilize other routes at this time. Persons should avoid D’urban St, Norton St, Camp St (between Brickdam and Norton), Creen Street and George Street.
