The preliminary inquiry (PI) into the murder of political activist Courtney Crum-Ewing continued yesterday with the testimonies of the responding officer and a resident of Diamond.
In August of last year, Regan Rodrigues also known as ‘Grey Boy’ was charged with the murder of Crum-Ewing subsequent to a gun allegedly being found in his possession that was linked to the crime. Rodrigues, however, was cleared of the gun and ammunition possession charges in January of this year by Magistrate Fabayo Azore after the prosecution failed to prove that Rodrigues had knowledge and possession of the items in question.
Taking the stand yesterday, before Magistrate Judy Latchman were Ulric Bruce of the Diamond Housing Scheme and Police Constable Devon Bowen, who is now stationed at the Brickdam Police Station attached to the Criminal Investigation Department but was stationed at the Golden Grove Police Station at the time.
The PI continues on April 29.
Crum-Ewing was shot dead on the evening of March 10 at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, where he was urging residents to vote against the incumbent PPP/C at the May 11 elections.
He was shot five times, including three times to the head.
For weeks prior to his death, he had held a one-man protest outside the office of the then attorney general Anil Nandlall, calling for his resignation over controversial statements he made during a telephone conversation with a Kaieteur News reporter that was made public.
