Two held for shooting at cop’s house

Two persons are in custody and police are hunting for three more as investigations continue into a shooting at a police prosecutor’s house at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

Stabroek News was told that gunmen on Tuesday opened fire at two houses in Diamond shortly before midnight. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

However, a senior police source told this publication that the evidence gathered does not suggest that it was an execution attempt as was reported in some sections of the media.

On the night, the police said, the men were in a car and opened fire at a house next to the lawman’s house and then at his home.

The officer had returned home after attending cricket match at the Guyana National Stadium and was releasing his dogs from their pen when three shots were fired at him, the source explained.  No one was hurt during the shooting.

Additionally, the source pointed out that after the men shot at the neighbouring house, the owner had summoned the police. Not long after, police were able to arrest two persons.

Three spent shells and a warhead were recovered from the policeman’s home.

According to the source, based on the evidence gathered, the men were under the influence of alcohol.
