No bail for woman caught at airport with cocaine in suitcase handle

Jenny-Ann Crawford, who was allegedly caught with a quantity of cocaine hidden in her suitcase at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), was yesterday denied bail and remanded to prison on a drug trafficking charge.

Crawford was arraigned in a Georgetown court before Magistrate Leron Daly on a charge that she had 410 grammes of cocaine in her possession for trafficking on August 4 at the CJIA.

The court heard that on the day in question, Crawford was given the drugs by an individual also who gave her the suitcase to travel with.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Crawford was represented by attorney Eusi Anderson in association with Adrian Thompson.

Anderson, who told the court the drugs were found in the handle of the suitcase, stated that his client ought to be granted bail given the fact that she has a medical condition, which he blamed for her being unable to maintain a stable job.

The magistrate, however, found no special reasons for Crawford to be granted bail.

She was subsequently remanded and the matter was then adjourned to September 13, when it will be heard by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
