Driveway shooting victim recovering

After being shot several times about her body while she was in the front seat of her friend’s car, Gailann Chacon is currently in a stable condition and recovering.

Stabroek News had reported yesterday that Chacon, 20, was in the passenger seat and her friend Colin Perreira, 25, an excavator operator, was driving his vehicle when he attempted to turn it around on a bridge in front of a businessman’s residence at Perry Street, Tucville.

The businessman, who was in the yard at the time,  drew his licensed handgun and discharged several rounds at the vehicle, hitting the victims about their bodies. The police were alerted and when they responded, the victims were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) where Perreira was pronounced dead on arrival and Chacon was admitted and listed as critical.

Chacon’s father, Dereck Chacon, explained to Stabroek News last night that his daughter was in a more stable condition and was recovering. “We are just waiting now on the doctors to finish their assessment and tell us what is next,” the man said.

According to the police, the businessman is still in  custody assisting with the investigations and the post-mortem for Perreira is expected to be conducted today.
